"Serving the general interest by promoting the quality and accessibility of education at the Theo Thijssenschool, in particular in the areas of visual arts, the cultural programme and other enriching educational activities, as well as the financial support of initiatives that contribute to the broad development of pupils and to the social and cultural formation of youth, and everything connected with the foregoing or conducive thereto, all in the broadest sense of the word."

— from article 3 paragraph 1 of the articles of association

Original Dutch wording, as referenced by the Belastingdienst:

The foundation pursues exclusively or almost exclusively (at least 90%) the general interest and has no profit motive (article 3 paragraph 3 of the articles of association). Its activities fall under the ANBI categories Education, science and research and Culture, and benefit an open group of beneficiaries: all pupils of the Theo Thijssenschool, a public primary school in Amsterdam with an open admissions policy.

Contributions to the foundation are entirely voluntary and are separate from pupils' participation in activities or facilities. All pupils benefit equally from the foundation's activities, regardless of whether parents or guardians contribute.

The foundation aims to advance the cultural, creative and social development of pupils. Its activities are open to all pupils of the school and are not dependent on a contribution from parents or guardians.

Outline of the policy plan

The foundation raises funds among parents, former parents, alumni and other supporters, and from private foundations and governmental schemes. Income is spent across three categories:

1. Visual arts and the cultural programme

  • (co-)funding of a continuous visual arts programme for all groups, taught by a specialist teacher;
  • (co-)funding of enriching sports and movement activities beyond the regular PE curriculum;
  • funding of visits to museums, theatres and cultural institutions in Amsterdam.

2. Enriching education

  • support for projects in music, dance, theatre and literature;
  • purchase of teaching materials, books and supplies that contribute to cultural education, enriching education and the broad development of pupils.

3. Accessibility

Supporting activities so that every pupil can participate, regardless of their family's financial situation.

The foundation operates unpaid, with minimal operating costs. At least 90% of expenditure goes directly to the foundation's objective.
